Description: 

Do you want to begin using Inquiry with your math students, but don't know how to get started? Join us to explore different models and strategies that support implementation of inquiry in the math classroom. Learn how inquiry ties to the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics and the powerful impact it can have on student learning.

Lunch is NOT provided. You may bring lunch or there are many restaurants in the area.

PLEASE BRING a wireless device and planning materials. In the afternoon, we will focus on developing inquiry tasks that align to your curriculum.

Presenter Bio: 

Kristen Clegg

Kristen Clegg is a national mathematics consultant and holds a master’s degree in Curriculum Development from DePaul University and National Board Certification in mathematics. 

Prior to becoming a full time consultant, Kristen taught middle and high school mathematics in Schaumburg, Illinois. Her consulting experience began in 1999 as a national trainer of exploratory math software and evolved into consulting independently and with numerous educational companies in an effort to help educators learn how to engage students in powerful learning experiences. 

Kristen’s work also includes classroom coaching and modeling, facilitating lesson studies, and customizing curriculum to align with the Illinois Learning Standards. She has presented numerous times for the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Metropolitan Mathematics Club, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and at other educational conferences and workshops.

 

Carrie Sargent

Carrie Sargent is an Instructional Coach in Elementary School District 62, Des Plaines. She has experience supporting teachers in grades 4-8 and currently works as a Middle School Instructional Coach. Carrie received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University, and holds two master’s degrees, one in Curriculum and Instruction and another in School Leadership.

Carrie has taught a variety of content areas, predominately math for grades 6-8, and served as a district mentor, math facilitator and member of the math common core committee.

Should you find it necessary to cancel your registration, please do so 7 days in advance of the event. Cancellations after that date will lead to you/your district forfeiting the right to a refund or non-payment of the registration. Because we understand that, as school personnel, circumstances change from day to day and scheduling conflicts may arise at any time, you may send someone from your district in your place.
