The Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA)
PERA created a law that requires anyone who evaluates teachers or principals to participate in retraining during their current license renewal cycle.

North Cook Retraining Requirements     Retraining Academies



  • One approved Administrator Academy course is required during each fiscal year (July 1-June 30) for any administrator or Teacher Leader who is working at least 50% of his/her school year in an Illinois public school in a position that requires an administrative endorsement. In addition, a minimum of 100 hours of professional development is required during the five-year period of the license.

    21B-45 - Professional Educator License Renewal.(e) For each renewal cycle, each professional educator licensee shall engage in professional development activities…
    (2) Beginning with his or her first full 5-year cycle, any licensee with an administrative endorsement who is not working in a position requiring such endorsement is NOT required to complete Illinois Administrators’ Academy courses, as described in Article 2 of this Code. Such licensees must complete one Illinois Administrators’ Academy course within one year after returning to a position that requires the administrative endorsement.
