Exploring the New Social Science Standards and Civic Requirement (AA-1842)

This course will provide an overview of the framework of the new social studies standards K-12.  Participants will learn from schools, administrators, and practitioners how the new standards incorporate both disciplinary concepts and inquiry skills that empower students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions for success in college, career and civic life.  Participants will explore the means of further engaging the community in providing civic learning opportunities inside and outside of school.  Time will be devoted to unpacking Public Act 99-0434 requiring a stand-alone semester of civics for high school graduation, including issues related to certification, professional development and course requirements.

Cancellations after that date will lead to you/your district forfeiting the right to a refund or non-payment of the registration. Because we understand that, as school personnel, circumstances change from day to day and scheduling conflicts may arise at any time, you may send someone from your district in your place.
